Texas Carriers Petition to Prohibit Use of E-rate Funds to Build Fiber Networks
Take Action to Protect the E-rate
Earlier this year, three Texas telecommunications companies asked the FCC to prohibit the use of E-rate funds for the special construction of fiber optics that overbuild existing fiber networks. If granted, their proposal would increase schools' broadband costs and create barriers to competition. Unfortunately, a group of Texas Representatives in the U.S. House recently sent a letter to the FCC endorsing this idea. We need your help to educate the Texas Congressional Delegation about why the companies' petition does not represent sound policy. Please use this model letter to express your opinion this week to your U.S. House of Representatives member.
